A November calendar can be a quick daily place to read numbers and notice a pattern. Start with one illustrated set and add a second design only if the group is ready to work on repeating patterns.
At a glance
Read today’s date and connect it with yesterday and tomorrow. Keep any pattern short enough to say aloud.
1. Fit the cards before printing
Use the print check and choose a pocket chart or magnetic surface the group can see.
2. Find the next numeral
Point to yesterday and ask what comes next. Show a number line if the date crosses a week boundary.
3. Read the weekday
Use full or abbreviated labels according to the group. Say the weekday and date in one sentence.
4. Make a simple fall pattern
Alternate two card styles and say the repeat as you point. Ask students what design should come next.
5. Stop at November 30
Use the 31 card separately for counting practice. End with one question about the numeral, weekday, or pattern.
A classroom example
In a fictional group, Niko chooses the next illustration but skips a date. His teacher covers the pictures and asks him to read the number sequence. Niko finds the next numeral and then checks the design.
