A short Nativity flip book can help young readers find familiar words while a picture or ending changes. Choose one book and read together before asking children to try the next line.
At a glance
Point to the focus word, read the whole line, and check the word in another short sentence.
1. Preview the vocabulary
Name any unfamiliar Nativity image and show the focus word in print.
2. Read the first line
Point to the words and read the full sentence. Pause to talk about the picture.
3. Flip and reread
Lift the next flap and identify what changed. Ask the child to find the repeated word.
4. Record one example
Trace or copy the focus word on the recording page when handwriting fits the lesson.
5. Read the word elsewhere
Show the word on a card or in another line. Give children time to look at the letters before offering help.
A classroom example
In a fictional group, Nat reads see in the repeated line but pauses when the word appears alone. The teacher shows the word in both places. Nat reads it again and finds it on a fresh card.
Companion printable
The 15-page PDF contains four books for see, is, Jesus, and look, in color and black line, with recording sheets.
